Any other voxely engines about?

So, no Minecraft by the sounds of it. Pocket Edition was a bit rubbish anyway, no caves, tiny area (255m x 255m) etc. So I thought I'd make my own!

I'm just over a month in:

Apologies for the temporary textures :)

So far I've got huge world maps (up to 4km x 4km), soft lighting (which I'll show off properly in another screeny later), full physics system, on the fly map creation (very quick, you should never see chunks popping in).

Caves generation and crafting are the next big things on the list, coming along though :) Getting it running smooth on the Tegra is the biggest battle, toning down the amount of foliage it can hold 60 though.

The Vestibule - Mystery/adventure microgame

Just published my first game to the story. The Vestibule is a completely free mystery/adventure game about self-discovery with a somber atmosphere. It's a remake of a game we made for Ludum Dare a couple years back, where it ranked in the top 5 for Mood. The Ouya version was made with Monogame.

You can complete the game in under a half hour. Care to give it a try?

Riding Rhodri - A platformer game where you can not jump

UPDATE: This game is now available on Google Play as well! It is $2.50 to download the entire game (36 levels + 4 bosses).

In this game you play as Rhodri. To be able to traverse the levels, you must bounce off of springs, hover over fans, and interact with other mechanics to beat the game. The idea behind this is that a lot of platformer games on smart phones require a button on the touchscreen to allow you to jump. I personally am sick of this, so we made a game where you can not jump. All you can do is move left and right. Just like our other game "Power Ups that Kill," this game will be available on both the Ouya and Android phones and tablet devices. We will upload a beta apk to both the Ouya store and here for Android users to test before official release. Please download it and test for us if you think it looks interesting!

Here are some pics of the final version if anyone is interested:

We will post a legitimate trailer in the next couple of weeks, but this game will be available on the console at launch. Here is some new game-play footage: image

Meaningful Genre Names

We here at OUYA would like to provide gamers and developers with better genre names to describe your games, and to help people find them. Please use this thread to tell me what genre names you think are missing, what are brand new ones you wish existed, how you think the names should be changed, etc.  Now that you're going through the process, and, hopefully, seeing the DISCOVER section on your OUYAs populated more and more by the hour, you'll get a sense of what might work better for you all!

Executive Star

Executive Star is a game where up to 4 friends compete to build rival mining colonies on a far future planet. It is a non-violent strategy/board-game in a similar vein to Settlers of Catan or Civilisation.

Currently I'm aiming to submit it to the OUYA store on April 12th, with a major update on May 3rd to put in extra features. In particular, my aim will be by May 3rd to have mobile devices connect to the game to act as second screens displaying players' secret cards

My game running on OUYA: The Secret of Universe Alpha

Here ya go, I'm just "announcing" my game today.  The Secret of Universe Alpha is an OUYA-exclusive game set to be a launch title (assuming I can swing it). It's a top-down space shooter with Zelda-style exploration. I'm going to release it as a demo, that you have to pay to unlock shortly into the game to get the rest of the game (basically after you finish the second level/dungeon).

Command Crisis: Callsign

I submitted my game earlier this week, but it was rejected because the left stick and d-pad didn't work for navigating the menus and playing the game.  Both seem to work fine though when testing on my dev console.  Can anyone think of a reason why they wouldn't be working?

If anyone would like to download and test for me you can grab the game at:

I did send Ouya an email explaining everything, but haven't heard back yet so I figured I'd see if anyone else with a console had the same issues.

Thanks!

Hi my name is John Anderson, I am the Founder, Lead Programmer and Writer for Happy Bomb Games. Right now, I am currently writing up the storyboard for a first-person shooter game the will be available exclusively for OUYA. The idea for this project is to re-create classic mid to late 90's FPS style games (like 007 GoldenEye and Turok) with a mixture of modern day gameplay mechanics. I can't talk much about right now because the game is still in its meta (pre-planning) stage at this moment. The engine I am using for the game is the Unity 4 Game Engine and for the IDE I am using is Visual Studios coding in C#. I will talk more about the project later this year, If you have any question for me about the project or on anything else please your question in the comment area.

P.S. - Rebel Software has been re-named to Happy Bomb Games due to copyright reasons and Blackjack: Empire Rises is no longer in operation.

Hi, I'm looking for people to play online games on the OUYA. Figured I should make a thread here, since most people with an OUYA at the moment are probably developers.

Drawing Universe

Drawing Universe is a game that I am developing where you have to run and jump around planets to get to the goal in a 360 DEGREE GRAVITY world. Did you think the 360 degree gravity was the unique gameplay element? No! You can also DRAW your own planets on the screen (hopefully) with the touchpad or with the right stick and right trigger. If you can't get the hang of those controls, you can always USE YOUR PHONE AS A CONTROLLER instead of the Ouya controllers. This means you can have more than the usual 4 players, so you can play with all your friends if you have more than 3 of them. In fact you can even play against your PC or Mac connected to your wifi if you want to.

OK at this point I should add a disclaimer that I don't have an Ouya that I can test with yet, so I don't know if the multiplayer works properly on it or not, but it's working awesomely with my PC (with multiple gamepads), Mac, iPod and iPad. And I own GMS so in theory it should port over with little effort (I'll need to make changes but probably not with the multiplayer).

Drawing Universe should have over 300 levels - that's 100 normal levels, 100 hard mode levels and the 100 levels from Drawing Galaxy (the prequel). They are short, but difficult. The gravity and drawing mechanics should get you thinking about how to complete these levels, well, at least more than a regular sidescroller would. You have to avoid comets which are one hit kill and each different colour has a different "ability", for example the cyan ones erase drawings and the magenta ones bounce off planets.

Here is a quick preview. I just finished the first 100 levels (and of course the 100 Drawing Galaxy ones too) so I thought it was time to show everyone.

http://www.youtube.com/embed/hrUNo3HfGKE
(wait, how do you embed videos?)

Also, I'm adding some guest characters (which is where the "over" in "over 300 levels" comes from). So if you have a character that you want to be included, just reply/message me.

I want to release it when I can get it working well on Ouya, but that means I will need an Ouya beforehand (I preordered for April). I'm so excited for Ouya so I'll put it on Ouya before anything else. If you want to try it you can try it on GameMaker Steam Workshop. It's free (with the free version of GameMaker on Steam).

Tell me what you think!

Games Pulled From the Store??

I noticed that 3 games have been pulled from the store - "Blood", "Lord of Portals", and "Fist of Fury".

Why were these games pulled?  I noticed that Lord of Portals looked exactly like the game Hexen II, was that the reason?  Were these games ripoffs?

Dead World - Stalker/Pikmin Inspired Action RPG

Hey everyone!

I am here posting the progress of my first "little" game for the Ouya I am calling Dead World. Keep in mind that I am an artist and not a programmer. I am planning on using Havok's Vision Engine for this game. Which they are making available for free late this spring.

Prelude to the game -
Dead World is set some 20 years after an major and sudden climate change on earth due to 99942 Apophis impacting the moon pushing it closer to earth. This resulted in coastal cities flooding, power blackouts, hours later deadly meteor showers that lasted the next few days and then silence. Governments soon fell victim to bands of warlords gaining power. However artifacts still remain scattered in the ruins of the old world.

Now the renders of the first level -
Keep in mind that these are Works In progress and are subject to change.

Out of curiosity, is it against any terms or rules to discuss sales or download numbers on these forums? I'm asking because I'm really curious to know if anyone is seeing (relative) success on OUYA yet.

Our download numbers are much lower than I would have expected at this point and I wanted to know if other devs were in a similar boat.

Submitting demos before full releases?

Hello everyone! Great to be here. As the title says, I am wondering if my company would be able to submit the demo to our game before the full release goes public.

The reason I ask is because I would like to the get the demo into peoples hands at launch, but we will still be a month or two from completion by the time the Ouya hits shelves.

Also, I hear the games store is live now, but had trouble finding a link. Any help there would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for the answers, and check out the trailer to our game at the link below!

Hi! We would like to port our ggj2013 entry, Odium http://odiumgame.com/ to the ouya. What do you guys think? We need some feedback on how you think controls should work, or any other general suggestions? We are currently making the game from scratch with full levels, more play modes etc. Refined post-processing effects (maybe we overdid it a bit on ggj :) ).

Sci-Fighters from Headup Games

Hey guys,

we are proud to announce that our first title is now available in the OUYA-store: Sci-Fighters!

image

The games idea (created by "The Impossible Game" creator FlukeDude) is as simple as addicting: Four players are set in an arena which is haunted by a monster. Each player tries to be the last man standing using classical 2d-gameplay mechanics. By using different weapons like flash grenades, a monster potion (turning the player into a monster), an ice-rifle or even an automatic laser the players are fighting for their lives over and over again. The definite highlight of the game is the multiplayer mode for up 4 players which transforms the OUYA to a real party-console. Single-players are able to train their skills by challenging the smart AI-controlled CPU-enemies.

Sci-Fighters presents itself in a comic-like 2d-style using different settings like “Martian Mansion” or “Toxic Forest”. The game draws lovely animated characters and wonderful sceneries and background on the screen, designed by SuperFlashBros-genius Adam Vian.

The best is yet to come: Sci-Fighters comes with all features completely free. An integrated “pay-if-you-like” menu offers the players the possibility to contribute the developers if and how much as they desire.

Features
• Multiplayer-mode for up to 4 players
• 7 different weapons from flash grenade to ice-cannon
• Bizarre characters with beautiful animations
• 3 unique settings with different monsters, background and according ambient-music
• Completely free playable with integrated pay-if-you-like-option

Would love to hear what you people here think about the game and let me know if you find any issues or ideas to improve the game :)

Cheers,
Mark // Headup Games
