Work In Progress - The Hero's Journey, a Sidescrolling Swordfighter!

The Asvarduil Project proudly presents...
image
Follow the Unity3D forums topic for dev webplayers and weekly updates!

The Hero's Journey is a short, but sweet, side-scrolling swordfighter that combines 3D environments with the 2D locales of yesteryear.  The mechanics are based off of all the good parts of The Legend of Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link, but without the game-breakers and utter fluff.

After acquiring a legendary suit of crystal armor, Tim the Knight wandered to the Kingdom of Aylea in search of medicine capable of healing his father's grievous wounds!  What Tim dosen't know, though, is that he's got a duty to the kingdom conferred by his very heritage - keeping the seal on the Supreme Evil Lord, who needs to stay sealed for 1000 more years!  However, some local Evil Lords have appeared and are trying to find the seal.

Can Sir Tim outwit, outfight, and survive various Evil Lords and their Evil Castles, find the items to ensure his victory, and ultimately keep the Supreme Evil Lord contained?

Screenshots (In-Development; Subject to Change)
image
Here, Sir Tim is introducing himself to the local government.  Maybe they know of medicine for freak spelunking accidents?  Or, maybe they just want to introduce the local ruler.  Governments are like that.

image
Having (finally) obtained a straight answer, Sir Tim sets out from Aylea Castle to the nearby town of Dunamne, in search of further information for both of his quests!

image
These two merry souls were just about to build a dining table, when this guy clad in crystal armor broke down the front door, and demanded to ransack the family's potent magical heirlooms.  They pawned them all off two generations ago.

image
While exploring the countryside, Tim the Knight stumbled upon a rather odd patch of ground, that contains a legendary Heart Rune!  Sadly, Tim's martial arts training prevents him from taking two steps to the left.  Swordsmen always fight along the line (in tournament settings...)

image
An anonymous tipster said a strange, life-enhancing rune could be found in a nearby cave.  All I found were smelly monsters, more rock than a music store, and some soiled armor.  That I'm wearing!  Worse, I have this creeping feeling that something's close by.  But, that's just crazy-talk.

Amazing Frog is our "kinda" sandbox rag doll physics game for OUYA that is set in the car parks outside our studio in Swindon UK.
We have kept if fairly open as to "how" you play, so that we could remain flexible in development as we add more modes.

So, here is a couple of videos.

The first is of us playing in on the OUYA, there are more videos on our youtube channel, this is the most recent of the current version on Discover (version 1.1) [ change log ].
The other video is of us talking about the game.

|I truly believe this project is possible |-
Everything I've written here as features I have at the very least had some experience with it or have an idea how it could be done, I've been as realistic about features and expectations as possible and in areas I wasn't sure about, I've written so. Though there is a lot of work to do, I hope you can stick with it through its stages.

|We at Midnight Tinkering care about our players (We actually mean it!) |-
This is an outlining documentation of the project and what we hope to do with it, however at each development stage as we start work on specific features and systems, we will go into more depth with it and once again give you the opportunity to have your say and provide feedback.
Though it will never be possible to please everyone, we will be working hard to provide enjoyable experiences with our projects, and so we hope that you will follow us on this journey .
I'll be working on finishing our current project for the launch of the OUYA first, then after that I'll start on this. Until then I will be looking through feedback and refining this design for when development starts.

|What can you do to help this project? |-
If you are interested in this project, please share it with anyone else you might also think is interested.
And if you have any responses to the features brought up here, or questions you'd like to know the answers to, or if you have any ideas of your own that you might think could be good for this project, don't be afraid to speak up ^^!

|How can you follow this project? |-

-| TL;DR? |-
If Chuck Norris used over 9000 rainbows to form the word 'awesomeness' and then have it explode, creating its own universe, that universe is this game.
If you disagree, as you should because how could anything possibly be that awesome, you can at least try to read all I've written up on this project and see if it's something you're interested in .

Toovies.com Launching - Looking To Review OUYA & Android Games

$

Hello All,

My name is Larry Cooney aka DirtyLarry.

I am one of many writers for a new website that will be launching in August called Toovies.com
We are going to be covering TV's, Movies, and Games.

A few of us, myself included, own the OUYA and Android based phones and tablets. We would love to start getting the OUYA itself, and just Android gaming in general, even more coverage in the press than it currently has.

So my proposal is a very simple one.

If you or anyone you know has any games you would like reviewed for the OUYA or Android ecosystem, please email me at larry@toovies.com

I can say if you are not open to being honestly reviewed, please do not bother. Our goal is to be a trusted resource for people, so we will be honest (yet fair) with our reviews.

If this sounds like something of interest, again, please email me and we can proceed accordingly.

Thanks for your time!

Regards,
Larry

Opposites: a competitive/cooperative falling blocks game

Opposites is a multiplayer falling blocks games, where both players are on the same playing field. One player is white on a black background, the other player is black on a white background, and they play in each others negative space. You can work together to blow up your combined score, or just try to pwn your buddy. There is also an AI Bot for single-players that is actually pretty fun to play against.

This is a port of a game I released several years ago for Xbox Live Indie Games.  It looks pretty basic, but I've been working hard to get the Opposites gameplay super crispy and it's REALLY fun. The only thing left to do is all the Android specific stuff, hopefully it is relatively painless Assuming nothing goes wrong, it should be ready in a month or two.

Cheers!

Don't Eat Soap

I am very close to publishing the OUYA version of my game Don't Eat Soap

This is an 8-bit-styled retro-game, lovingly inspired by Bubble Bobble.

It is programmed in the OHRRPGCE and is the first OHRRPGCE to be ported to OUYA (or any Android for that matter)

This game is FREE. I might add a "Donate" button later, but there is nothing to be unlocked.

The initial release will probably be single player only, but I do plan to add 2-player support as soon as I work out how to make multiple controllers work with sdl-android

World Destroyers!(The Ultimate Asteroids Game!)

Hey everyone,

I'd like to introduce to you the game my friends and I have been working on since February.

The game is called World Destroyers and it is the ULTIMATE homage to Asteroids style games. I'll post links to the first look trailer and our website below.
The game starts out simply enough. You must take to the vacuum of space to defend earth from an incoming asteroid assault. However you quickly learn that there is much more to this asteroid barrage than you thought. If you'd like to learn more there is a TON of info on our website. We've been doing a Dev Blog, and just this week, leading up to the release of the game we've started doing daily posts which introduce you to elements of the game. The game is slated to be released in the last week of July!

First Look Trailer
HardHeadGames.com

The footage in the trailer is from about a month ago, before we really started polishing up the graphics and sound. While the game play you'll see is fairly indicative of what you'll get in the final version, the graphics and sounds have been DRASTICALLY improved! Art is always something thats been lacking in my games... because I don't know any artists AND I can't draw worth a damn. But thats no longer the case, as fate would have it. (check out my dev blog HERE if you wanna hear the cool story on that)

When we started it we really didn't know where we would release it... That is, until we heard about OUYA. OUYA seems like the perfect fit for the games we make in general because we're all about local multi-player mayhem! We mainly started making games just to play and enjoy at LAN parties and on Friday nights. We also frequently participate in Ludum Dare. But I became ambitious in late 2011 and quit my job to try to make a career out of making games. It's been a long bumpy road, but I'm super happy to say that we are just weeks away from releasing our first full blown title and it'll be landing on OUYA and PC!

If you guys have any questions or comments on what you see please post em! I'm always looking for input on the game!

Soc-Car - Now Available in the Sandbox

Hi Guys,

My game Soc-Car is now available on the store if anyone would like to try it out

image

Soc-Car is a local multi-player game where you control cars playing a game of soccer. It's 2-4 players (You can also mess around with one player)

The game supports Ouya, Xbox and Ps3 controllers.

Phones and tablets are also supported without the need for external apps, using a free open source library I'm working on called "More Controllers Please". If you are interested in adding MCP to your game please get in touch and I can help you.

There is not really too much I can say here other than if you have some friends over please give it a try, its 100% free and is only about 5Mb of a download.

This is my first ever game so I would love to hear any feedback or suggestions for improvements.

Thanks,

Brian

The Little Crane That Could

Hi there,

My crane simulator is coming along very nicely.
Most of the porting is complete.

I was pleasantly surprised by the high fill rate of its GPU.
My shader with dynamic shadows does roughly 50FPS at 1920x1080.
That is pretty amazing, if you realize how PS3 games can't do full 1920x1080p at fluid frame rates.
It seems that the Tegra3 has a higher fill rate than the PS3.

All graphics are drawn for 1920x1080. It's inspired by Lost Vikings and Trine.
I'm working hard on finishing it before half of March - by the end of the month I hope to have everything ready beside the levels. What do you guys think?

Promo text for EURO competition:

The Lost Heroes is a puzzle platformer with three characters which you can switch between at any time, each with its own capabilities and powers.

First there is the wizardess Casty La Fay with red mane of hair and ability to cast spells and jump high in the air. Second there is the troll called Pebble by his friends and Beware-Of-That-Huge-Boulder by his enemies. Strong and able to break walls with his huge hands and block projectiles at will. Last there is the valiant knight Sir Lancefew of the House of Sparse Lances who knows how to use a sword and bow and fights with valor if not grace.

The game begins when the three unlikely heroes are put in jail because of the great appetite of the troll for precious gems. After escaping with the help of an old and very suspicious looking fellow, they travel through different worlds full of puzzles, platforms and monsters saving small cute creatures and looking for a way home.

You can pick up and use items and new spells that change the abilities of the characters, open doors with keys, levers and buttons, operate elevators and swim. For example with teleport spell Casty can transport other characters into different places, while with a levitation spell she can float through the air. Picking up a bow allows Lancefew to shoot monsters and a hook with a chain provides Pebble with ability to swing.

The game is inspired by the classic game The Lost Vikings and Trine series, written using libGDX and box2D with animations made in Spine2D. Most of the graphics is painted by hand on a graphics tablet, music is composed using professional software and will be cinematic with choirs and large string ensembles mostly because I like choirs and I like violins and cellos and all that.

Esperanto-radio Muzaiko: 1st non-English OUYA app!

$

Listen to 9 radio stations in the international language of Esperanto on your TV for free! Esperanto-radio Muzaiko is the first app for the OUYA game console in a language other than English. This app gives you access to 9 radio stations in the international language of Esperanto on your television from the comfort of your couch. These stations come from all over the world, from Australia to Cuba, and even the Vatican! Also featured is the international Internet radio station Muzaiko, which broadcasts Esperanto music, interviews and news non-stop. Esperanto-radio Muzaiko lets you listen to the latest content from these stations or dig into their archives to access specific programs. Some interesting examples: - Interview with Kimo J. Henriksen, native Esperanto speaker and well-known singer (Varsovia Vento). - Swedish train conductors took off their pants at work (Radio Verda). - Protect Japan against tsunamis (Pola Retradio). - Arkones, an Esperanto cultural festival in Poland (Kaliningrada E-radio). - The latest Esperanto artists and albums (Vinilkosmo). The OUYA app came about as an international cooperation between Chuck Smith (American) and Jacob Nordfalk (Danish). In December 2011, Jacob launched the Android version of the app, which is currently available on the Google Play store for Android phones and tablets. He made the code open source and freely available through Google Code. All communications between the two developers were in Esperanto. The radio station Muzaiko was founded by a workgroup at the British Congress of Esperanto in April 2011 with a common vision to create a 24/7 online radio station in Esperanto. The team quickly grew and chose the name Muzaiko, a combination of the Esperanto words “mozaiko” and “muziko.” They started broadcasting in July 2011, offering a 3-hour program repeated throughout the day, containing at least an hour of fresh content everyday. Complete list of Esperanto stations: - Muzaiko (International) - Pola Retradio (Poland) - 3ZZZ en Esperanto (Australia) - Radio Havano Kubo (Cuba) - Radio Vatikana (Vatican) - Radio Verda (Canada) - Varsovia Vento (Poland) - Kaliningrada E-radio (Russia) - Vinilkosmo (France)

(This video's a bit old now. I've toned down movement speed and started working on changing the background tiles since it was recorded.)

I've been working on this for about a month and a half now and, over the past few days, I've been making the, initially painful, move to Ouya where I feel it'll fit a bit better than on PC. Now that it's finally playable, I decided I should post on the dev forums.

At this point, due to the excessive use of particles, performance has been a bit low so I've been working on that. Might have to lower the screen size since, right now, it takes the size of the TV and calculates the nearest integer scale to the size of the TV.

I'd really been hoping the name would be temporary but I haven't come up with a better one yet, so for now it's sticking. >.>

I'm always looking for testers so if anyone's interested, let me know and I'll post the APK.

And then here's the list of features I've got so far:

* Deathmatch and King of the Hill modes
* 20+ playable wizards
* 5+ stages
* Support for creating custom stages with their own tilesets and music (this is probably not making it onto Ouya unless I can find a reliable way to allow players to import their own assets).

Lastly, since I've seen some talk about engines being used, I'm using Haxe, OpenFL, and HaxePunk.
